Appearance: Standing at 5’11” this human man appears to be in his early thirties. Around the average build of a male, not overweight but not rippling with muscle either. Bright blue eyes and dark brown hair. Typically, he will have some bags under his eyes due to his estranged hours of sleep, which vary near constantly, as can be expected from a Waywatcher. His ears stick out ever so slightly from his hair, which is neatly tied back into a ponytail. Various pieces of his equipment are dotted about on his person. He has along his belt a few small pouches, his kryss shows easily on his right hip, clipped to the belt, and several small knives tucked into the back which are hard to see, unless looking for the small handles. His spear is strapped along his back, but is rarely used. He also carries a dagger in his left boot for emergencies, incase he runs out of his other 5 blades. He has a long scar running down his left forearm.

Work-description: Typical of a Waywatcher. He will watch, plot, listen, scheme, spy and stab. As he often does, he will stay hidden if heavy manual labour can look to make him help.

Personality: Valen used to be a very cheerful guard and a good friend to many. Although he become more detached as he spent time in the shadows, however he still retained a lot of his character. But with most stories told it involves a little tragedy which he never speaks of. Since then he was depressed, and after returning to duty it was quite clear to notice he had become a harsher man. He now tries to implement discipline where he sees it lacking and fire out an insult where he sees it deserving. He has become a lot more patient in his work and is learning when the right time to strike, or leave, is. Despite this, he has been known to comfort people in times of dire need. Recently he seems happier, for reasons unknown.

Background: Back in his hometown of Jhelom he was unable to make much of himself. Being the son of a whore, he was left in the local orphanage until he grew up. He found a job to work in the nearby butchers to gather some coin for himself, and when he wasn't working he spent most of his time gambling, and getting drunk in brothels. He did however, manage to gamble his way to a few of the higher luxuries. For a time. After losing a great deal of his money, as well as some of the butcher's, he travelled across the land for a solution and found the Militia. After staying with it for a few years, he found a much more peaceful and reliable lifestyle. With people he met there he can trust them with his life, and theirs' with him. Valen learned patience, and discipline, and could trust people easier. Although he has changed a lot from his former life, his former habits can be resurrected and so he has a tendency to shirk duty.
